Cheryl Cole – “Messy Little Raindrops” Details

Cheryl Cole’s team sent out a newsletter today with details of her upcoming album, Messy Little Raindrops. It’s an eleven track album again, featuring three duets with Travie McCoy, August Rigo and Dizzee Rascal. Everybody, Everyone was described in the newsletter as a “sure-fire hit” and a “killer collaboration with the one and only Dizzee Rascal“, so we can assume it will be the third single following Promise This and The Flood. The album cover and list of producers are yet to be revealed.

One thing about the track titles which stands out immediately is the fact that a lot of the titles are similar to recent songs by other artists. The Promise by Girls Aloud, The Flood by Take That, Hummingbird Heartbeat by Katy Perry, Amnesia by Britney Spears and Waiting by Girls Aloud. This is either a coincidence or else Cheryl’s lyrical inspiration for a number of tracks is heavily influenced by other artists’ ideas.

Messy Little Raindrops is released November 1st through Fascination Records.

Cheryl Cole’s music video for Promise This, the lead single from her upcoming album Messy Little Raindrops, premiered last night after The Xtra Factor.

The video keeps a similar theme to the 3 Words era, but also fits the song perfectly. While the song is uptempo, lyrically it’s quite dark and the video enforces this very well.

Cheryl Cole’s lead single, Promise This, from her upcoming sophomore album, premiered today on Chris Moyles’ BBC Radio 1 show. After the huge success of Fight For This Love, Cheryl returns with another Wayne Wilkins track, this time specially penned for Cheryl.

Promise This is very different to anything on her debut album, 3 Words. It’s more dance-pop and less r’n'b-lite. The only previous work by Cheryl that it could be compared to is the b-side, Boys, which shares similar production styles. It doesn’t sound much like anything else around right now but it sounds very fresh, yet current.

The track samples the well known French song Alouette. Cheryl metaphorically sings about plucking and spreading wings which is then used as a hook during the intro, post-chorus and outro of the song, but in French.

Melodically, Cheryl’s vocal in the verses has a similarity to the verses of Rain On Me from her debut. The chorus is quite short like Fight For This Love’s chorus, but similarly the repetitive, French, post-chorus is the biggest hook in the song. Promise This, again will be a huge club hit for Cheryl as it’s quite uptempo, clocking in at 150bpm, faster than Fight For This Love’s 120bpm.

Promise This will be released on October 25th, following an X Factor performance and followed by her sophomore album, Messy Little Raindrops, on November 1st, through Fascination Records.

Cheryl Sings “Live” Again

While I like Cheryl Cole and overlooked the fact that she mimes her way through most performances because of the demanding, energetic routines which put on a good show, it’s no excuse for any singer to mime while standing still.

Cheryl “performed” Fight For This Love on French radio on a show similar to Radio One’s Live Lounge in the UK, standing still behind a mic stand, mouthing the lyrics to a pre-recorded vocal of Fight For This Love out of sync. What’s worse is there was no need for her to mime since there was no dance routine involved and she proved that she’s more than capable of doing a decent live performance as she did last week with her current UK single Parachute and a cover of Owl City’s Fireflies on Radio One’s Live Lounge in the UK. Fight For This Love is not a vocally demanding song and a singer should be able to breeze through it with no problems.

On top of that, the pre-recorded vocal which Cheryl mimed to while rooted to the spot, was the exact same pre-recorded, purposely flawed vocal that she used for her performances of Fight For This Love at The Brits and the Danish version of The X Factor. The least she could do is record a new vocal for each performance to make it sound somewhat convincing.

At this rate, when Cheryl returns to the UK, she’ll be marched straight into the studio to lay down purposely flawed, pre-recorded vocals for the entire setlist as supporting act for The Black Eyed Peas European tour this summer.

Cheryl Cole Working With Ryan Tedder

According to reports, Cheryl Cole is working with Ryan Tedder on some new tracks. Some sources are saying Cheryl is looking for a U.S. career and is bringing 3 Words over there repackaged. Other sources are jumping to the conclusion that Cheryl is working on her second album already. Neither have been confirmed but after the success of 3 Words, it’s not surprising that Cheryl wants more and with Nadine Coyle’s album out so late in the year, which could halt any chances of Girls Aloud returning by the end of the year, why shouldn’t she want more?

Fans of course are worried about Cheryl working with Ryan, in fear of another one of his signature hits (Already Gone, Halo, Bleeding Love) being given to her which definitely wouldn’t work for an artist like Cheryl. What people need to remember is, Ryan does have some very good songs that weren’t huge hits but would be more suiting to Cheryl and with her public persona she could excel similar songs to be the hits they deserve to be. Such songs include:

Hilary Duff – Gypsy Woman, Holiday, Reach Out
Shayne Ward – Tell Him
Natasha Bedingfield – Love Like This
Sugababes – Thank You For The Heartbreak
Kelly Clarkson – Tip of My Tongue, Impossible, If I Can’t Have You

Songs in the same vein as the one’s above, made to sound more like Cheryl’s sound, could really work for her and launch her career in the U.S. along with 3 Words and possibly Fight For This Love.

The follow up to Cheryl Cole’s 2nd single 3 Words has been confirmed as Parachute. Cheryl made her debut TV performance of the track on Saturday night during Cheryl Cole’s Night In. Although not the most single worthy track on the album, it will end her short term solo career off on a high as judging by the iTunes chart, it looks set to be another hit.

The music video for Cheryl Cole’s upcoming single 3 Words featuring Will.I.Am premiered earlier today. The video is very different to Cheryl’s debut Fight For This Love as this time it’s not Cheryl dancing in front of a green screen. The video is edited into a split screen effect showing Cheryl and Will on each side of the screen making it look like Cheryl and Will didn’t film the video together.

The video doesn’t really go anywhere although many would argue that the song doesn’t either. Overall I don’t like it yet but maybe after watching it a few more views I might change my mind.

3 Words…To Save My Life

Cheryl Cole’s upcoming second single, 3 Words, premiered this morning on Chris Moyles’ BBC Radio 1 show. As a Will.I.Am produced track it’s unexpectedly and surprisingly brilliant.

Dubbed by Cheryl herself as the best song on her upcoming debut, 3 Words is a melancholic, mid-tempo piece of dance pop with a bit of an edge to it. Slightly experimental but at the same time it’s easy to recognise that it comes from the same place as tracks on The Black Eyed Peas latest album The E.N.D., particularly I Gotta Feeling. It wouldn’t sound out of place sat next to the latter, Missing You and Meet Me Halfway but judging from the clips of Cheryl’s debut album, it could sound out of place on there.

3 Words has the potential to be a huge hit for Cheryl. If clubs take to it like I Gotta Feeling, a number one is definitely in the bag.
